OKARA, Jan 12: A dacoit wanted in dozens of cases was killed during an hour-long `encounter’ with police here on Monday at Gernali Chowk at Chak No 7/1-R while his three accomplices managed their escape in the darkness of the night.

After receipt of information from DPO Bilal Siddique Kamyana, a Saddar Renala police team rushed to Chak 7/1-R where some dacoits were looting passers-by.

On seeing the police, the dacoits opened fire. During a shootout, Ashraf alias Acchi Kaarl was killed while his three accomplices managed their escape. The police recovered a kalashnikov from his possession.
