Young man shot dead

QUETTA, Jan 12: A young man was gunned down in the Kerani road area here on Monday.

According to police, Mohammad Hanif was going home when some people on a motorbike opened fire, killing him on the spot.

People of Hazara community staged a demonstration in protest against the killing and blocked the Kerani road for about three hours, chanting slogans against the government.

The protesters, however, dispersed after negotiations between elders of Hazara community and leaders of the Tehrik-i-Jafaria and the administration.

The inspector general of police suspended a sub-inspector and two constables who were on duty in the area.

A senior police officer said that more checkposts would be set up to stop such incidents. Two checkposts have already been set up in the area.

Gas pipeline blown up: A gas pipeline was blown up in Killi Kashmirabad area of Saryab on Monday by unidentified men. The blast caused suspension of gas supply to all surrounding areas.
