6,000 shelters distributed in Balochistan

ISLAMABAD Jan 6: The Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) in collaboration with International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) has completed provision of 6,000 corrugated galvanized iron (CGI) shelters for the quake victims of Balochistan.

The press release issued here on Tuesday said the PRCS teams had distributed 2,891 shelters in Ziariat, 2,118 in Pishin and 991 in Harni. Besides 10 winterized steel shelter units for 120 families each consist of accommodation unit along with kitchen, washroom and store had been provided with the support of Turkish Red Crescent.

Speaking at a media briefing about the Balochistan earthquake operations, PRCS Secretary General Brig (retd) Muhammad Ilyas Khan said that PRCS had mobilised all its resources to support the victims.

Mr Khan said the PRCS Balochistan chapter had already distributed shelter kits consisting of 11595 tents, 27000 blankets, 2000 CGI sheets, 6000 Traupline sheets, 5000 kitchen sets and 2500 stoves to the quake affected areas of Ziariat and Pashin.

He said that the PRCS health teams comprising doctors, paramedics and ambulances were fully operating in Ziariat and had so far provided medical cover to 4,961 victims.
