KAMRA CANTT, Jan 5: The Polish Engineer who was abducted three months ago has not been recovered yet despite the directives of the president and prime minister.
Mr Peter Stanczak, employee of the Geofizyka Krakw Oil Company, was kidnapped in the jurisdiction of Basal police station, Attock, on September 28, 2008.
The police sources said that the Polish engineer was on his way to the field camp in the morning when four gunmen opened indiscriminate firing on the engineer's jeep and killed Frontier Constabulary guard Muhammad Saleem, drivers Anayatullah and Riaz and kidnapped the engineer.
The police said the company did not follow the security instructions issued by the district police adding the other multinational oil exploration companies had been asked to make proper security arrangements for their staffs while their movement in the oil fields of Miyal, Khour, Dahkni and Durnol in the wake of prevailing terrorism threats.
Meanwhile, a five-member investigating team led by SP Investigation Attock Raja Hassan Akhtar along with DSP Chaudhry Aslam, DSP Pindigheb Circle Syed Zulfiqar Shah and the SHOs of Basal and Jand, was also constituted on September 29, 2008.
Whereas, the pending compensations to the land owners of the areas have also been refused by the company due to suspension of their oil survey for an indefinite period.SP Akhtar said that police had arrested number of activists of banned religious outfits from the surrounding villages of Pindsultani and Domail for their suspicious involvement in the kidnapping of Mr Stanczak.
However, on October 3, Taliban militants in Darra Adamkhel, Kohat claimed that a Polish engineer kidnapped from Attock was in their custody at some unidentified place. Taliban also warned that the detainee could be killed if he was not released on their conditional demands.
The Polish government has recently brought this serious matter to the notice of President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani who have assured it for the early release of the kidnapped engineer.—PPI
