LAHORE, Jan 4: Decline in prices of some eatables at Sunday bazaars came as a pleasant surprise to shoppers who were unsure of the holding of bazaars due to intermittent rain in the city since Saturday.
The prices of tomatoes, onions and potatoes as well as of some fruits registered a cut following poor turnout of customers at wholesale fruit and vegetable markets of the city.
Barring a few commodities, most of vegetables were available at reasonable prices in Wahdat Road and Shadman bazaars.
Onion registered the most visible price cut as it was available for Rs9 to Rs13 per kilo against its last Sunday prices of Rs18 to Rs22 per kg.
The price of garlic (China) was down by Rs3 to Rs30 per kilogram. Desi garlic was being sold at Rs18 to Rs22 per kg.
The rate of ginger (China) also registered a downward trend as it was available at Rs52 to Rs57 per kg against last Sunday’s prices of Rs55 to Rs60. Ginger (Thai) remained stable at Rs44 to Rs48 per kg. However, capsicum’s rate was up by Rs8 to Rs38 per kg and green chilies were being sold at Rs11 to Rs18 per kg.
The price of new potatoes was fixed at Rs10 to Rs12 per kg while the old crop was available at Rs6 to Rs7 per kilo.
Cucumber was being sold at Rs20 to Rs27 per kg with a reduction of Rs7, while peas were available at Rs32 to Rs33 per kg.
The price of cauliflower was fixed at Rs5 to Rs6 per kg, cabbage at Rs6 to Rs7 per kg and spinach Rs4 to Rs5 per kg.
Depending on quality, apples were being sold at Rs24 to Rs50 per kg and banana at Rs12 to Rs30 per dozen.
Rice of a reasonable quality was available at Rs55 to 60 per kg, while the lower quality of the commodity was being sold between Rs40 to Rs46 per kg.
