GUJRAT, Jan 4: Hundreds of workers belonging to pottery and fan manufacturing industries staged a demonstration in front of Small Industries Estate on G.T. Road here on Sunday to protest ongoing gas and power loadshedding.
Torching tyres, the protesters chanted slogans against the government for its failure in resolving the energy crises due to which the industries and workers were suffering.
They also blocked the road and threw traffic out of gear for couple of hours. They also damaged some vehicles before a heavy contingent of police could reach there to maintain law and order.
The All Pakistan Pottery Manufacturers Association had organised the demonstration, however, workers of fan manufacturing units also joined the protest.
The Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Company had suspended the gas supply of around 50 industrial units a month ago and since then the production in these units had also been suspended due to which the labourers, especially daily wagers, lost their jobs and the remaining were not being paid.
SHEIKHUPURA: Citizens and activists of Jamaat-i-Islami took out a rally against the unannounced loadshedding here on Sunday.
The protesters marched on Lahore-Sargodha Road and chanted slogans against the Lahore Electric Supply Company and Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited.
They said instead of providing relief to the people the rulers had intensified their problems.
