LAYYAH, Jan 4: The Education Department has left hundreds of primary school students with no English teachers after a recent transfer of 10 English teachers. Now, these schools, located in rural areas, have no sanctioned posts of English teachers.

Education Executive District Officer (EDO) Qazi Qadir Bakhsh Qureshi allegedly transferred the 10 teachers to please local political bosses despite a ban on transfer in the province.

The teachers who were transferred are: Farah Naz from the Government Girls’ Middle School (GGMS) in Chak 135-TDA to Behmanwala GGMS; Samina Ahmed from Chak 162 to Jaman Shah; Zarka Shafi from Chak 130 to TDA Colony in the Layyah city; Shahida Nasreen from Chak 132 to Islamia School in the Layyah city; Riffat Parveen from Chak 388-TDA to Behmanwala; Lubna Kokab from Chak 112-TDA to Chak 279-TDA; Saima Kanwal from Chak 127-TDA to Kotla Haji Shah; Samina Yasmeen from Chak 156-TDA to Jaman Shah; Yasmeen Asghar from Chak 109-TDA to Chak 279 and Seema Masood from Chak 153-A TDA to Chak 137-TDA.

These transfers were made with the shifting of posts, which means the students of these 10 schools would never see English teachers unless the posts are again sanctioned which is an uphill task.

The EDO said the Punjab education secretary (schools) had approved these transfers and “I just followed his orders”.—Correspondent
