Landslide blocks KKH

GILGIT, Jan 4: A landslide triggered by heavy rains blocked the Karakoram Highway (KKH) near Murtaza Abad area, suspending all kinds of traffic between Gilgit and Hunza.

Officials told Dawn that heavy machinery was moved to the site to remove the boulders. However, the road was not cleared till the filing of this news report at around 9pm. The landslide left hundreds of passengers stranded on either side of the site. According to the officials, the link would be restored by Monday evening.

Meanwhile, flights between Islamabad and Gilgit remained suspended for the third consecutive day on Sunday due to inclement weather conditions.—Correspondent
