LAHORE, Jan 1: The Lahore High Court’s registrar office on Thursday objected to filing of a plea for restraining the government from issuing Rs10 coin bearing former prime minister Benazir Bhutto’s image.

The office returned the plea to petitioner Asim Bhatti, stating that the plea should be filed before an appropriate forum.

The office said the Islamabad High Court was the proper forum in this case because the federal government had been made a party to the plea. The petitioner states that the federal government be restrained from issuing such a coin because it will set a precedent for others to follow.

He said Quaid-i-Azam and Allama Mohammad Iqbal’s images should be retained on coins, and other be barred from making it a practice.

A court official said the plea might be placed before a judge if the petitioner replied to the objection and insisted upon having the plea heard by the Lahore High Court.
