MIRPURKHAS, Dec 31: Rs8.1 million had been allocated in annual budget as grant in aid for the Dialysis Centre and Rs675,000 had been released each month to the district nazim’s office to run the centre but the nazim’s office sat on the amount and did not bother to release it, making the kidney patients suffer, said EDO of finance Zakir Shah on Wednesday.

Briefing the district council meeting, Mr Shah said a total of Rs3.2 million had been released so far. The chief secretary had taken notice and ordered to shift the amount to EDO of health so that the centre could be run in a proper manner in future, he said.

He said that he would approach higher authorities with regard to a resolution, calling for enhancement of honorarium of council members.

The council debated artificial shortage of fertiliser and its sale in blackmarket, and passed a resolution, demanding the authorities take chairman of monitoring committee on agriculture on the committee, which was tasked with distributing fertiliser in the district.

The council urged the government to take measures to reduce prices of medicines, which were recently raised by pharmaceutical companies.

EDO of revenue Bachal Rahepoto told the session that the urea fertiliser being distributed by the Utility Stores Corporation at government-fixed price was insufficient and fell short of meeting the district’s requirement.—Correspondent
