LAHORE, Dec 29: Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has suggested some changes in the itinerary proposed by the Pakistan Cricket Board for their next month’s series in Pakistan.

A final decision to this regard is likely to be taken by the two boards on Tuesday.

The PCB had proposed three Tests and five One-day Internationals (ODIs) to be played from Jan 20 to Feb 25 and was waiting for approval by their counterparts.

PCB Director Cricket Operations Zakir Khan told Dawn on Monday that a telephonic contact was made with SLC key official Duleep Mendis who suggested two Tests, three ODIs and a Twenty20.

He said Mendis was of the view that work load on his team was heavy as they would have to visit Zimbabwe after playing against Bangladesh.

Zakir said he had brought the situation to Director General Javed Miandad’s notice.

Zakir said an internal meeting of the SLC was going to be held on Tuesday and hopefully the final decision would be taken after that.

He said two Tests, three ODIs and one Twenty20 were included in the first proposed itinerary and Mendis wanted to retain it.

Interestingly, the SLC sacked its president Arjuna Ranatunga who had proposed a change in the origin itinerary turning it into three Tests and five ODIs.

But after Ranatunga’s dismissal by their sports minister the tour seemed to be in the doldrums and the Sri Lankan president had to give permission for the tour after getting a briefing from his foreign minister last week.

The PCB invited Sri Lanka after India had refused to tour Pakistan following Mumbai terror attacks.
