KARACHI, Dec 26: The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC), blamed for the Dec 17 oil spill in Korangi, is considering revision of its standing operating procedures.

In a statement released on Friday, the gas company said that the management was considering revision of its SOPs to avoid any such incident in the future.

Moreover, the SSGC also offered Parco and other oil refineries to integrate their pipelines with its Geographic Information System.

Parco transfers imported crude oil to its refinery in Muzaffargarh, Punjab, through the pipeline which was damaged in the incident.

It was further said that the company was aware of environmental hazards involved in the oil spillage and was not shying away from its responsibilities.

The company taking instant remedial actions, among other activities, helped bring normality to the area through its relief operation in a record time, the statement claimed.

It provided food, drinking water and medical help at the doorstep of the residents, the statement added, claiming that compensation to the residents had also been provided.

According to the gas company, the oil-soaked sand from the site has been collected and dumped far away from the city limits at around Khadeji Camp by the Sui Southern Gas Company.
