KHAR, Dec 22: One militant was killed when security forces targeted suspected hideouts of Taliban while three missiles were fired at the camp headquarters of paramilitary Bajaur Scouts, some ten kilometres from here, on Monday.

The security forces pounded suspected militant hideouts in different areas of Mamond tehsil on Sunday night with mortar and cannon killing one militant and injuring several others.

Owing to the expedited activities of security forces in various areas of Mamond, hundreds of dwellers vacated their houses and started migration to safer places.

Meanwhile, unidentified persons fired three missiles at the camp headquarters of Bajaur Scouts in Kang and Tangi areas of tehsil Salarzai. However, the missiles missed the target and landed in open field near the camp.

Officials said the missiles were fired from a hilltop and the apparent target was the paramilitary camp in the region.

Meanwhile, Taliban spokesman Maulvi Omar told Dawn by phone from unspecified place that none of the Taliban was killed in the Sunday’s bombing by jetfighters. He said only civilians were killed in the bombing.

He added that the dead included four women, two children and three men. He vowed to take revenge of the attacks on the civilian population.—Correspondent
