11 die as houses collapse

JACOBABAD, Dec 20: Though Sindh received no rains on Saturday, incidents of house collapse continued in different parts of the province, claiming lives of 11 more people.

Five people were killed and another injured during different incidents of house collapse in Jacobabad district on Friday night and Saturday.

Three people were killed and another received injuries when roof of the house of a teacher Allah Rakhio collapsed in Rindho Malghani village in the Garhi Khairo area when the family members were asleep on Friday night.

The deceased included Allah Rakhio’s daughter Sohni, son Ali Raza, 6, and niece Naseema. His brother Gulshan Malghani received injuries. Relatives and neighbours arrived on the spot and took out the dead and the injured from the debris and rushed the injured to hospital.

Another incident of wall collapse occurred in Bahadurpur in the Thul area on Saturday when a wall of the house collapsed. As a result Ahmed Din Behrani, 28, died on the spot as he was standing near the wall.

The third incident occurred in Yar Ali Golo village when roof of house of Yar Ali Golo collapsed, killing Jan Bibi, 45, wife of Bhooral Golo, on the spot.

In Naushahro Feroze district, four people were killed and eight others were injured when their houses collapsed in different incidents since Friday night.

Manzoor Ali Baat 18, son of Azizullah, was killed while Farhana and Uzma both sisters, were injured when walls of their house collapsed in village Ghulam Abbas near Tharushah on Saturday.

In the second incident, Ms Naseeban Shar and Arbeli, 15, were killed when roof of their house collapsed in village Ghulam Hussain near Bhirya on Friday night.

Afsana, 8, daughter of Anwar Jogi, was killed when roof of their house collapsed in Mohammad Bux Jogi village near Kandiaro, on Saturday morning.

In another incident, four persons including a child were injured when roof of their house collapsed in Ghulam Mohammad Khaskheli village near Phul town, on Saturday. Mohammad, his wife Muradan, their daughter Roshni and Ms Reema received injuries and were admitted to civil hospital Naushahro Feroze.Ms Haseena was injured when some portion of roof and a wall of her house collapsed in Talib Solangi village. A minor boy Suleman Korejo was seriously injured when wall of his house collapsed in Bhorti near Tharushah.

In Shikarpur district, a woman, Sihat Khatoon, was killed when the roof of her house collapsed in Naushahro Abro village near Amrote, Garhi Yasin taluka.

According to reports, more than 30 persons including women and children have so far been injured seriously in different parts of the district when roofs and walls of their houses collapsed during recent rains.

More than 50 katcha houses in city and rural areas have been damaged due to continuous rain during the last three days.

The rain victims have appealed to the Sindh relief commissioner to ensure financial assistance and rehabilitation of the affected people.

In Ramzan Solangi village of Ghotki district’s Sarhad area, roof of a house caved in and resultantly Mohammad Ismail Solangi was killed and his wife Bashiran was injured and shifted to taluka hospital, Ghotki.

Roofs and walls of some 200 katcha houses collapsed in Bahoo Khoso, Mirpur Buriro, Garhi Hassan, Mubarakpur and other towns and villages and as a result 30 persons including women and children were injured.

Besides, some 30 to 40 cattle heads were also killed in rain-related incidents.
