LAHORE, Dec 17: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said deprivations of dwellers of Cholistan will be redressed and no one will be allowed to usurp their rights.
The chief minister also announced awarding of proprietary rights to residents of all katchi abadis of Cholistan, provision of 200-250 cusecs of irrigation water for meeting the shortage of canal water and setting up of a cadet college in Cholistan.
He also announced provision of Rs300 million for the promotion of livestock in Cholistan besides setting up of meat and milk processing plants on behalf of the Punjab government.
According to a handout, the chief minister announced the package for local dwellers while addressing a public gathering at historic Drawer fort at Cholistan, about 100 kilometre away from here on Thursday.
He said prosperity of Cholistan dwellers was his mission and scores of development projects would be implemented.
He said special attention was being paid to provide health facilities throughout the province while mobile dispensaries would be set up for the provision of treatment facilities to Cholistanis.
Mr Shahbaz directed Cholistan Development Authority Managing Director Ikramullah Khan to provide a piece of land for the establishment of Cadet College in Cholistan.
He said opportunities of higher education would be extended to Cholistani boys and girls in urban educational institutions where they would be provided free education and accommodation.
The chief minister also directed to constitute a special taskforce for maintaining the natural beauty of Cholistan and conservation of its plants.
He said as a pilot project, a cooperative forum would be formed and linked to a meat processing value and addition plant and the Punjab government would itself invest in the project and after processing of meat and milk the same would be exported to Abu Dhabi, Dubai and other Arab countries.
The chief minister said after the success of this experiment, foreign investors and companies would be motivated to set up similar big plants and a share would be allocated for the Cholistanis in these projects.
