TANDO MOHAMMAD KHAN, Dec 17: Passions still run high in the town five days after the attack on the residence of a leader of Sindh Taraqqi Pasand Party reportedly by Sirhindis as police refuse to register FIR and party chairman Dr Qadir Magsi leads a rally here on Wednesday.
It started with exchange hot words between two men belonging to Noonari clan with Pir Ahmed Jan Sirhindi, son of Pir Khalid Jan Sirhindi, former chairman of Hyderabad district council, on Thursday last and soon spiralled into a clash between the two communities.
On Friday Sirhindis attacked the house of STP leader Dr Ahmed Noonari and the same day police, instead of arresting law-breakers on both sides, unilaterally rounded up more than 20 Noonaris, most of whom were members of STP.
Dr Noonari’s residence still bore several pockmarks of bullets left by the attack and according to Dr Magsi, Sirhindis had used hired hands supplied by a Hyderabad-based drug baron in the attack. Nobody on either side is hurt though some say Noonaris’ did retaliate.
STP chairman Dr Qadir Magsi who led a rally in the town blamed the attack on Pir Wali Jan Sirhindi and slammed police for raiding Noonari’s home and misbehaving with womenfolk.
He criticised DPO Attaullah Chandio for what he said behaving like a steward and sending STP workers including 14-year-old boys and an 80-year-old man behind bars.
The STP had been demanding that police register FIR for attack on its leader’s house but instead the law-enforcers had lodged half a dozen FIRs against STP workers on charges of firing in the air to force people to close their business in the wake of attack.
Police itself was complainant in all the FIRs lodged against STP activists.
“No FIR (by Noonaris) was lodged because no one was injured in the attack,” said DPO Attaullah Chandio.
He evaded the question why FIRs had been lodged against STP workers when no one was injured in firing.
He came up with another answer saying, the “STP leaders didn’t seek registration of FIR and wanted to settle the issue through dialogue. “It’s a petty issue and will be settled soon.
Sirhindis seem ready to settle the issue through dialogue. “Through some common friends efforts are under way to settle the issue through talks,” said Khalid Jan Sirhindi on phone.
