LAHORE, Dec 11: The three-day 25th Governor’s Cup will see some 300 golfers competing at the Lahore Gymkhana course from Friday to Sunday.

As many as 125 golfers have confirmed their participation for the amateur category. Similarly 83 seniors, 35 veterans and 19 ladies have also sent in entries for their respective categories.

The annual event will be featuring the country’s various upcoming amateur golfers. The Governors Cup is based on net scores and the participant, who achieves glory after three days of tiring competition, is the amateur with the best net score.

Consistency in performance will be an important ingredient for an amateur to do well and emerge as the best one.

The potential winner has to be good at all the aspects of the game, that is, driving off the tee, accuracy in fairway shots, excellence in the short game and above all the ability to get the small six foot putts in.

Golfers with a handicap of 14 and below are eligible to fight for the net trophy.

The gross event will also run for three days. Net and gross events for ladies will be played on the last two days (Saturday and Sunday). The seniors (above 55 years) will also be contesting in both net and gross categories on Saturday. Besides that, veterans (above 70 years of age) will compete for the top honours on Friday.

Aadil Jehangir (Lahore Gymkhana), Mohammad Safdar (Gujranwala), Aleem-ur-Rehman (Gymkhana), Murad A. Khan (Gymkhana), Lt Col (retd.) Raja Asif Mehdi (Lahore Garrison), Shafique Bhatti (Gymkhana), Sardar Murad Khan (Gymkhana), Mir Maaz Mahmood (Gymkhana), Salman Jehangir (Gymkhana).

Muard A. Khan is the tournament director, while Rai Azizullah Khan is the match referee.
