THATTA, Dec 6: Sindh Minister for Education Pir Mazharul Haq on Saturday held the district government system responsible for destroying nation-building sectors, particularly education, and said his party was considering re-institutionalising the system through constitutional means in near future.

Talking to reporters during his brief stay at Thatta bypass en route to Badin, the minister said that despite having huge funds and state machinery at their disposal incompetent nazims had miserably failed in delivering goods and a majority of them availed themselves of their position by multiplying their own wealth.

He said that the system had left the common man at the mercy of a handful of nazims who came to power under the umbrella of dictatorial rule.

His party had suffered a lot under this system and thousands of its activists were implicated in fabricated cases, he said.

The minister said that the party finally came to power after unparalleled sacrifices by its leader Benazir Bhutto and workers but the present government had inherited a huge backlog of problems from its predecessors and it would require time to solve them.

He admitted that a number of schools remained closed in the province and many school buildings had been turned into Autaqs of landlords and feudal lords. The ministry was taking steps to streamline the system, he added.

About submission of three private bills, including gender harassment at workplace, domestic violence against women and children and elimination of copy culture in examination by an MPA Humera Alwani, he said that the women legislators were doing a commendable job.

He said that after fulfilment of procedural formalities the bills would be handled accordingly. Confrontation in education department would never be allowed, he said.

He said he had removed EDO of education Wahab Abbasi and action would be taken against all the people involved in recent problems in the education department after an inquiry.

The minister praised national consensus among leaders of public opinion and political parties in the country, particularly after blame game by the neighbouring country.

Our Badin correspondent adds: Sindh education minister Pir Mazharul Haq paid surprise visits to various schools of UC Khorwah on Saturday and ordered suspension of ten teachers and supervisors for dereliction in their duties.

He said that he had ordered demolition of old and dilapidated school buildings and warned that strict action would be taken against officers in case of negligence.
