QUETTA, Dec 5: The Balochistan National Party-Mengal has urged the government to end military operation in Balochistan.

BNP activists staged a demonstration outside the press club here on Friday and raised slogans against the government.

Addressing the protesters, the party’s acting president Dr Jehanzeb Jamaldani, secretary-general Habib Jalib Baloch and Malik Wali Kakar demanded immediate arrest of the killers of BNP members Zahid Hussain Baloch and Dr Saleh Baloch.

They accused the Muttahida Qaumi Movement leadership of protecting the killers of Zahid Hussain who was murdered in Karachi two weeks ago.

They blamed the MQM for the recent violence in Karachi and said its purpose was to force Pakhtun businessmen and transporters to leave the city.

They said Karachi belonged to Sindh and an ethnic group had no right to force the Baloch or Pakhtun people to leave the city.

They criticised the government for pursuing the policies of previous rulers and said that missing persons were yet to be traced and hundreds of political workers were still behind bars.

They said that the Baloch people did not need any mega project, including Gwadar, which would turn them into a minority in their own province. They urged the government to stop settling outsiders in Balochistan in the name of progress.

They vowed to continue the struggle for the rights of Baloch people and to protect the coast and resources of Balochistan.

PML-N’S DEMONSTRATION: Also on Friday PML-N activists held a demonstration and demanded resignation of Supreme Court Chief Justice Hamid Dogar for using his official position to get additional marks for his daughter.

Former city government nizam Abdur Rahim Kakar and PML-N leaders Nizam Khan and Noor Khan Nasar addressed the protesters who had gathered outside the press club.

The protesters also demanded reinstatement of deposed chief justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry.

The speakers urged the government to protect innocent people in Karachi and ban the MQM.

They said the PML-N would continue its struggle for an independent judiciary and reinstatement of all deposed judges.
