GUJRAT, Dec 4: Police arrested the district public safety commission chairman from Islamnagar late on Wednesday night and registered a case against him for allegedly driving a car under the influence of wine and abusing a police team, which tried to stop him during the patrol.
A Civil Lines police team tried to stop a car near Jail Chowk in Islamnagar during a routine patrol, but the car driver did not stop. The car occupants allegedly abused the policemen before fleeing. Police chased the car and found District Public Safety Commission Chairman Chaudhry Wilayatullah Owais in the driving seat. He used ‘abusive language’ against the policemen as he was ‘drunk’. He resisted when the police tried to arrest him. However, the police arrested him, registered a case against him and detained him.
Owais, who is also nazim of the Dilawarpur Union Council and associated with the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid, called his arrest an act of political victimisation.
Owais was in the police custody till Thursday night and the court was likely to be moved for his release on Friday (today).
