LONDON, Nov 30: Once mighty Leeds United suffered an embarrassing FA Cup exit on Sunday, beaten 1-0 by minor league Histon in the second round.
Postman Matthew Langston headed the only goal for the Cambridgeshire village side just before halftime and Leeds, winners of the competition in 1972 and three times English champions, failed to reply.
The closest Leeds came was a Lubomir Michalik effort that hit the post in the second half but Histon, who play in the Blue Square premier division, one rung below the professional ranks, held on for a famous victory.
Defeat was another blow for Leeds, who have fallen on hard times since reaching the Champions League semi-finals in 2001.
Since then, they have been relegated twice and are languishing in League One (third division). Histon will play Championship (second division) Swansea City in the third round.—Reuters
