The city police chief, Waseem Ahmed, told Dawn that violent activities took place in the jurisdiction of only 10 out of the 103 total police stations across the city.
“The situation is gradually heading towards normalcy as the police and Rangers are keeping a close watch on it”, he added.
The CCPO said that the violence remained confined within the limits of Orangi Town, Mominabad, Pakistan Bazaar, Baldia Town, Sachal, Sohrab Goth, Peerabad and Manghopir.
Meanwhile, violence continued for the third day at Sohrab Goth, where miscreants pelted the vehicular traffic with stones. They also resorted to heavy firing in the evening that claimed two lives.
The police said that 11 people were killed in rioting on Sunday, and 13 others had been killed on Saturday.
Two brothers were shot dead by miscreants near the cattle market at Sohrab Goth. The victims, Rahman and Rehan, were residents of North Karachi and had gone to the market to buy sacrificial animals.
A security guard at a petrol pump, Hazrat Ali, was shot dead in Orangi Town, and a man, Abdur Rahman, was killed in Mominabad.
A security guard at a car showroom on Rashid Minhas Road was shot dead. The victim was identified as Rasoon Khan, son of Misri Khan.
In Soldier Bazaar, a dispenser of a clinic was shot dead. Identified as Nasir Hussain, son of Rehmat Ullah, the victim was a resident of Lines Area.
A rag picker was shot dead on M.A. Jinnah Road and a watchman of Iqbal Market, Fazal Ullah, was shot dead in Kharadar.
A middle-aged unidentified man was shot dead near Jama Cloth Market in Preedy police area, and a young unidentified man was gunned down in Taimuria.
The owner of a restaurant, Jalal Din, son of Ziauddin, was shot dead in Khwaja Ajmer Nagri and a man, who was fatally wound in Model Colony, died at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.
Besides, the police said that a shop was set on fire in Khokrapar and two carpet shops were torched in Liaquatabad.
Two carpet shops were set ablaze in Landhi, and seven wooden cabins were torched in Karimabad.
A hardware shop and a paint shop were torched in Malir Colony, and a junkyard was set on fire in Jacob Lines.
A shop was also torched in Orangi Town.
As many as 11 shops of bamboo and mats were set on fire in Godhra timber market in New Karachi. The fire also spread to an adjoining towel factory and damaged it partially.
CM, governor urge for peace
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has taken strong notice of violence in Karachi in the past 48 hours.
He ordered that all efforts should be made to catch these elements and use all resources to protect the life and property of the people.
In a statement, he expressed sorrow and grief over the tragic incidents.
Mr Shah appealed to the citizens of Karachi and political and religious groups to maintain unity. He urged for tolerance to foil the designs of conspirators.
Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad, in his statement, condemned the violence and expressed sorrow and grief over the loss of life and property of the people.
He appealed to the people to remain calm and keep a watch on miscreants.
