ISLAMABAD, Nov 28: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has welcomed the government’s decision to disband the political wing of the Inter-Services Intelligence Agency (ISI) acknowledging it as a positive step towards strengthening of democracy.

Talking to reporters here on Thursday, PML-N Secretary Information Ahsan Iqbal said the government needed to close down the political wings of all intelligence agencies as stated in the Charter of Democracy.

The government should constitute a committee to review the misuse of security agencies to protect professionalism of these institutions.

Mr Iqbal said the government had failed to make any serious move towards optimising the performance of institutions despite passing nine months.

The government was distributing jobs on political grounds regardless of merit and eligibility.

He said the government had not presented yet the details of its IMF repayment plan in the Parliament despite many demands by the opposition.
