HYDERABAD, Nov 27: Lawyers boycotted courts on Thursday to register their protest against delay in reinstatement of Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry and other superior court judges. The boycott was partial in the sessions court.
Lawyers held a general body meeting, which was followed by a rally in the premises of the sessions court.
The president of the High Court Bar Association (HCBA), Abdul Sattar Kazi, secretary of HDBA Nisar Durrani and joint secretary of HCBA Ayaz Tunio addressed the meeting.
Mr Durrani said that their struggle would continue till its goals were achieved. Lawyers had given their word to people and civil society that they would not rest till they brought about a qualitative change in their lives.
He urged the democratic forces to formulate an effective strategy for compelling the government to restore the judiciary to its pre-Nov 3, 2007 position.
He expressed disappointment over what he as the government’s deviation from the ideas and objectives of late Benazir Bhutto.
Mr Tunio said that their struggle was completely peaceful and rulers were damaging their own image. The country was facing bankruptcy and the IMF was being approached for loan compromising the country’s sovereignty.
