QUETTA, May 11: The Water and Sanitation Authority (Wasa) has revised PC-I of the Quetta Water Supply Scheme and submitted it to Balochistan government for approval and onward dispatch to Ecnec, official sources said.
The plan worth Rs6.5 billion, which had been pending for two years, was further delayed when some objections were raised at a formal meeting of water committee, headed by the provincial governor.
The federal government might give approval on urgent basis, as work on the scheme had been scheduled to start from the forthcoming fiscal, reliable sources said.
Some reports said that the Chief Executive Secretariat was pursuing the project and advising the Balochistan government to finalise the PC-I and dispatch it immediately.
The approval remains a formality, as the project was already prepared and planned on the orders from President Gen Pervez Musharraf after the water famine in this valley some two years back.
A friendly-neighbouring country had already committed to provide soft loan for the project so that it could be implemented and completed within the stipulated period.
President Musharraf personally took interest in the water supply scheme and pledged to finance it from the federal resources.
Under the project major parts of Quetta will be linked up with a new system of water supply, replacing the old and worn out pipelines, laying the new pipelines and building new reservoirs, overhead and underground water tanks for efficient water supply plan.
