GILGIT, Nov 23: Executive committee of the grand peace Jirga of Gilgit-Baltistan decided on Sunday to reorganise the Jirga and include new members, who enjoy influence in their respective localities, into it.
Meeting of the committee was held here at Northern Area Legislative Secretariat with Speaker Malik Mohammad Miskeen in chair, who is also chairman of the Jirga.
The meeting held lengthy deliberations to make the peace body more effective to devise comprehensive plan for sustainable peace in the region.
The meeting reviewed performance of the Jirga during the last three years and paid tributes to those who rendered services for the establishment of durable peace in the region.
The meeting expressed its resolve to go ahead with the mission of peace and vowed to continue preaching message of peace and tolerance.
It was agreed at the meeting that new members from Gilgit and its surrounding areas would join the Jirga which would continue its services.
Senior administration and police officials represented the government on this occasion and held assurance of full cooperation of the government to strengthen the institution of Jirga in this mountainous region.
