SUKKUR, Nov 23: The issue of Ghulam Mohammad Mahar Medical College’s affiliation with the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council was resolved after a special team of the PMDC, which visited the college on Saturday, declared that it met the standard required for registration with PMDC.

The team has assured students of the college that the college was likely to be granted affiliation by the end of this year, it is reliably learnt.

The team, headed by Professor Hameed Masoodi and including Sindh Health Secretary Mohammad Hussain Syed, visited classrooms and library of the college and different wards of the Civil Hospital. It enquired from the students about the syllabus from 1st year to 4th year MBBS.

Prof Hameed assured the students that a report will be sent to federal and provincial governments in due course for prompting affiliation of college.

Meanwhile, Medical Superintendent of Civil Hospital Dr Iqbal Pathan told newsmen that he was satisfied with the visit of the team and was confident that it would meet the old demand of the students for the affiliation, thus saving their future.

He said that during the last few weeks, the provincial government has improved the infrastructure of the college besides appointing 60 professors, assistant professors and associate professors for smooth running of the classes.

It was also learnt that several doctors and associate professors have also called on the Sindh health secretary during his recent visit and urged him for regularising their jobs as they were teaching in the college without getting salaries. Leaving them, some new professors and assistant professors were regularised which they termed as grave injustice to them, they said.

They were assured by the health secretary to take the issue with Sindh chief minister and the Sindh health minister.
