Farmers urged to grow more wheat

HYDERABAD, Nov 22: Application of latest machinery, research, and the increase in wheat support price would go a long way in mitigating the sufferings of farming community, said District Nazim Hyderabad, Kanwar Naveed Jamil.

These and other measures would also encourage farmers to get enhanced wheat production, he added when speaking as the chief guest at “grow more wheat” seminar organised by the district government on Saturday.

The hike in wheat support price was the result of inordinate rise in the prices of agricultural inputs he said adding that the Agriculture University Tandojam was guiding growers to enhance wheat production. He said tens of millions of rupees had been spent on the lining of watercourses in the district and expressed the hope that this will go a long way in the conservations of water and increase crop production. Nazim stressed upon the need of implementing recommendations of the Water Management Board for overcoming water shortage.

He said that from next week seminars would be held at UC level for creating awareness among farmers regarding the ‘grow more wheat campaign’ as prosperity of the province depends on well-being of tillers.

DCO Hyderabad, Mir Ahmed Lund, expressing his views on the subject informed of the availability of fertilizer with the district government and advised the farmers to get it from here if it was not available at fixed rates in the market.

Director General, Agriculture Extension Sindh, Naeem Ahmed Korejo told farmers to replace old methods of wheat cultivation with the latest technology and approach Agriculture Department in case of any problems.
