ISLAMABAD, Nov 22: Adviser to Prime Minister on Interior Rehman Malik suspended two officials of Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) immigration department when he found an intending Haji, deported from Saudi Arabia on the charge of traveling on a tampered passport, in their custody at the city’s airport on Saturday.
The adviser paid a surprise visit to FIA immigration office located near the domestic arrival lounge soon after his arrival in Islamabad on PK-300 from Karachi. He found the intended Haji in the custody of the FIA officials.
On inquiry it was revealed that the deportee, Ahmad Hassan, had gone to Saudi Arabia on a Haj flight on a tampered passport from Benazir Bhutto International Airport on November 20. Later he was detained by Saudi authorities who deported him to Karachi.
On this Mr Malik suspended two officials of the FIA, including a lady sub-inspector, as they were on duty when he traveled to Saudi Arabia from Islamabad.
The intending Haji traveled to Saudi Arabia on a passport which had his photograph but the name of his brother Mohammad Hassan.
Investigations have been started to probe as to how he boarded a Haj flight despite strict checking.
Earlier, it was revealed that an inspector and additional director immigration were suspended but later the immigration authorities confirmed that only two officials, SI Saima and head constable Qari Arshad, were suspended by the adviser.
It may be mentioned here that the adviser and the intending Haji traveled on the same flight -- PK-300 -- from Karachi to Islamabad.
