HYDERABAD Nov 22: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has said that the president’s directive to register those coming to Karachi from northern and tribal areas is a sequence of apprehensions of Talibanisation raised by MQM chief Altaf Hussain.

He said that President Asif Ali Zardari had taken such reports seriously and sought an investigation into the matter.

The governor was answering questions of journalist after inaugurating the renovated Rani Bagh here on Saturday.

The governor said that the way people are migrating from tribal and northern areas calls for maintenance of a proper data so that no one could take disadvantage of the situation or resort to subversive activities. “The registration will be done in order to monitor their activity”, he said. He said that people are migrating to Karachi to save their lives but their arrival (in Karachi) could endanger peace.

“Therefore its necessary that their registration should be done at initial level so that a proper data could be maintained as to how far such movement of people had taken place and it has been emphasised by the president”, Mr Ibad said.

He added that property owners should also seek registration of such tenants so that chances of any criminal activity could be checked.

About cases of people handing over their children by mothers to Edhi volunteers, he said that our economy is under tremendous pressure due to global recession and it could only be collectively handled. He said that local business community should be supported which would improve economy level and its impacts would be felt by local population.

He said that MQM’s micro bank is a step in right direction because when local people would invest in it the bank would be able to sponsor and finance people for their micro level business.

Regarding local government elections on party basis, he said that consultation process is going-on and a consensus decision would be taken in this regard.

Likewise, he said, National Finance Commission award would be announced at an appropriate time and Sindh government is well prepared for it.

Earlier, while speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the governor lauded efforts of Hyderabad District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil and his team for carrying out 1,300 minor and major development works. He said that outgoing provincial and federal governments had fully supported these works executed in sewerage, drainage and road sectors.

“President Asif Zardari and Altaf Hussain have developed a political vision for the stability of the country and Sindh. Its effects would be seen in our next generation and Sindh would be major beneficiary”, he said.

He said that currently the country is facing economic crunch due to worldwide economic meltdown. He stated for war on terror it was necessary that there should be political stability.

He congratulated Qasimabad TMA that Rani Bagh was being handed over to it and expressed the hope that it would maintain and add to its beauty. He said that TMA should not charge fee from people for at least one month since it is being opened after a long time. “The fee should be affordable”, he said.

A splendid display of fireworks greeted handing over of Rani Bagh’s keys by the district nazim to Qasimabad Taluka Nazim Noor Mohammad Shoro with Sindhi folk tunes being played in the background.

Gold shield was presented to governor and district nazim while certificates of appreciation were given to officials. Governor took a round of Rani Bagh and the zoo which was illuminated with colourful lights.
