South Asian shooting starts today

ISLAMABAD, Nov 21: Shooters from India, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bangladesh arrived in Islamabad on Friday to participate in the 4th South Asian Shooting Championship scheduled to start on Saturday at the Gun Club of Pakistan Sports Complex.

Thirty-seven marksmen are participating from India, 10 from Sri Lanka, one from Nepal and 20 from Bangladesh. while Pakistan team comprises 34 sharpshooters.

Competition director of the championship Col Abbas Raza told Dawn on Friday that Pakistan are quite likely to clinch some medals in the competition.

“We have very bright chances to perform well in skeet, centre fire pistol and trap events” he added.

Commenting about the track record of Pakistani shooters in the South Asian Championship Raza said that Pakistani shooters clinched 9 medals in the 3rd South Asian Championship.

Abbas pointed out that Indian shooting team could not compete in the 3rd South Asian Championship for unknown reasons.

He said that it would be a tough competition as Indian shooters are here for the first time. “The Indians are participating with a strong shooting team and were being led by the team manager Deep Bahtia” he informed.
