RAWALPINDI, Nov 21: Two officials of Rawalpindi police were suspended and booked on robbery charges on Friday, police said.
Regional Police Officer (RPO) Rawalpindi Nasir Khan Durrani ordered the arrest as well as registration of a criminal case against the two police constables, Rashid Minhas and Mohammad Nauman.
Mohammad Sajid, a resident of Dewal Sharif, had lodged a complaint with RPO Nasir Khan Durrani, alleging that he was heading home when some men intercepted him and snatched his mobile phone. He said later his friend identified the persons as police constables posted at Saddar Bairooni police station.
Later he reported the matter to the police station concerned but no action was taken.
In the meantime more people also complained about similar robbery incidents, and expressed their suspicion on the two police officials.
On this complaint, RPO Nasir Khan Durrani entrusted the matter to SSP/RIB Rawalpindi and asked him to hold an inquiry. After the completion of the investigation it was confirmed that constables Rashid Minhas and Mohammad Nauman were involved in the crime.
The regional police officer, Rawalpindi, then ordered registration of criminal case against both the constables and also suspended them. Nasir Khan Durrani has also directed the local police to arrest them immediately.
Meanwhile, an army officer was robbed of cash and his cell phone by two motorbike riders, while five other persons were deprived of their vehicles in different parts of the city, police said.
Capt Amjad Awais, the robbery victim, told Airport police that he was going home when two motorcyclists intercepted him and snatched Rs4,250 and a cell phone from him.
Mudassir Hussain’s car was stolen from R.A. Bazaar, Shafqat Ali Kiani’s car was taken away by thieves from the Airport area while Iyaz Ahmad’s vehicle was stolen from New Town.
Zubair Shaukat lodged a similar complaint with Civil Lines police while Gulfraz Ahmad lodged an FIR of motorcycle theft with R.A. Bazaar police.
