Kidnapped boy reunited with family

RAWALPINDI, Nov 21: A seven-year-old boy was on Friday reunited with his family unharmed 15 hours after being kidnapped.

This was stated by the City Police Officer Rawalpindi Rao Mohammad Iqbal at a press conference held at his office.

The CPO said Hammas Ahmad Khan, a son of an army officer, was abducted by his driver for a ransom of Rs10 million.

The CPO said three teams of the police, each led by SP Rana Shahid, DSP Civil Lines Raja Taifoor Akhtar, inspector Karim Niazi and Malik Mohammad Yar, traced the kidnappers and recovered the abducted boy from a house in Kotli Sattian and arrested three members of the kidnappers’ gang.

However, the mastermind of the kidnapping was yet to be arrested by the police.

The CPO said that the father of the abducted boy was serving with a UN mission.

He said it was a gang of criminals who first get house jobs and then planned kidnapping.

The same was the case with the kidnapper Asif Khan who first got the job at Major Farhan Ahmad’s house as a driver and then abducted his son.

Asif Khan, belonged to Kahuta and his links go to Kashmir.

The little boy who has been in class III said in his statement that when he took some sips of juice given by the kidnapper he fainted. On regaining consciousness he found himself at an unknown place, he added.

The relatives of the boy said they felt relieved on their son being reunited with them.

SP Investigation Rana Shahid who was leading the police raid revealed that 23 such cases had taken place in Rawalpindi this year and all had been traced by the police with the arrest of 42 kidnappers.

He said two gangs of Afghan nationals had been involved in the kidnapping for ransom cases in Taxila and Wah and their members have been operating from Sabzi Mandi Islamabad and tribal areas.

Some of the members of kidnappers’ gang had been captured by the police; however, their ring leader Zareef is yet to be arrested.

Replying To a question regarding the kidnapping of a doctor of Railway Hospital Rawalpindi, the SP Investigation said it seemed that the doctor had gone willingly and is somewhere in the tribal area of Swat.
