QUETTA, Nov 18: The women’s wing of the Balochistan National Party (Awami) has said that some elements have unleashed a media campaign about marital infidelity to distort and malign Baloch culture and traditions and undermine the Baloch people’s struggle for national rights.
Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, general secretary of the party’s women’s wing Dr Fauzia Marri said that the mischievous elements were attacking BNP-Awami’s president Israrullah Zehri who had only spoken about Baloch traditions and had not defended inhuman acts of some individuals.
Dr Marri, who is a member of the Balochistan Assembly, said that her party did not believe in discrimination on the basis of gender, race or religion and supported all efforts for ending discrimination against women and weaker sections of the society.
Stressing the need for giving women equal economic opportunities, Dr Marri said she had personally contributed Rs1.5 million to a special fund created by the speaker of the Balochistan Assembly for the rehabilitation of internally-displaced people.
She criticised NGOs and said that no international aid agency had come forward to help the internally-displaced people.
