S. African HC speaks on media ethics

RAWALPINDI, Nov 18: South African High Commissioner Daniel Jabulani Maviimbela on Tuesday in his lecture on media ethics said that professionalism demands integrity and courage and the reporting should be full of objectivity. “Freedom is not absolute it coincides with law and rules.”

The lecture was arranged by department of communication sciences at Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU). Students and faculty members largely attended the lecture.

He said that the history of human kind showed that the democratic norms helped the media in playing its role freely and effectively. Media cannot exist in vacuum.

Dr Shamim Zaidi, Chairperson Department of Communication Sciences introduced the guest to the audience.

Mr Daniel Jabulani Maviimbela is a well know figure in the field of journalism in his country. He had been a part of the National Youth Committee (NYC). Mr. Daniel graduated with an honors degree in 1992 from UK.

He was of the view that state is a political institution and it intended to create a political environment favorable to its interests.

He said that media is the forth pillar of the society.The South African High Commissioner Daniel Jabulani Maviimbela also called on the Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Saeeda Asadullah Khan in her office.

While appreciating the freedom struggle by the South Asian people under the leadership of Nelson Mandella, the Vice Chancellorshowed interest for having academics collaboration with theuniversities in South Africa.

She also presented the university shield to the honorable guest as a token of appreciation.
