LAHORE, Nov 18: The Chaudhrys of Gujrat have decided to take the ‘dissidents issue’ to the PML-Q central executive committee or general council where these rebellious leaders lack majority.

According to party insiders, PML-Q President Shujaat Husain has so far been avoiding to raise the issue at both the decision-making bodies for a variety of reasons.

But with more assertive Pervaiz Elahi assuming added significance in the party due to his expected selection of its president in March next when PML-Q polls are due, things have started changing as far as the party strategy is concerned.

Sources say Elahi, who has also delivered some verbal warning shorts against PML-Q mentor and former president Gen Pervez Musharraf (retired), is not in a mood to let these ‘political minions’ mess around.It is because of his stand that Shujaat Husain refused to form a committee to run the party for the rest of his term. “That is why Sumera Malik was fired from presidentship of the party women wing,” said a source.

In order to ensure success at the CEC or the general council, Pervaiz Elahi has been meeting PML-Q district office-bearers in a bid to assess the mood of party rank and file.

Sources say the former chief minister has been emboldened by the magnitude of the support that his aggressive tone and posture got from the district set-ups. Elahi’s line of argument is that the party needs workers, not rebellious leaders.

Ijazul Haq, however, thinks that intra-party rift will make the party ultimate loser. “It is not the time to secure victories and inflict defeat on each other,” he said talking to Dawn. The leadership must try to solve the issues to keep the party united.

According to him, there is no doubt that the Chaudhrys enjoy support of the majority at both these party platforms, but any one leaving the party will only strengthen popular perception about the PML-Q that it has been divided against itself. “They can isolate rebellious group and even deal with rebellion, but party as a whole will suffer.”
