ATTOCK, Nov 17: Six more dengue fever patients from tehsil Jand have tested positive with dengue virus at the National Institute of Health, Islamabad.

Blood samples of these patients had been sent to the institute after they suffered from dengue fever-like symptoms, sources said.

According to the sources, after the detection of eight dengue cases from Basal village, the health teams started monitoring of Basal, Thatta and Matiyal and Jand villages of tehsil Jand to find the suspect patients.

Blood samples of 64 patients of these areas had been sent to the NIH for test about 10 days ago. Tests of the six patients from Jand were found positive on Monday.

The institute authorities have also informed the health department, Attock, in this regard. With the detection of these cases, total number of dengue fever cases reported at the Attock district since the outbreak of the disease stand at 37.

When contacted, EDO Health Naqvi said these patients had been already under treatment at their houses to prevent the spread of this viral disease.

He said all the previous 31 dengue fever patients had recovered.

The EDO said blood tests of 58 more suspect patients of the affected areas were under process at the NIH.

These samples had been collected by the health surveillance and monitoring teams during the campaign against dengue fever.

He said heath surveillance teams at all tehsils were collecting information about any suspect case reported to a public or private health facility.

They will also facilitate the medical practitioners about latest information about the disease.

The population of affected areas was being provided with treatment of malaria by the department whose staff was distributing medicines door-to-door, besides thermal fogging of the areas, the EDO added.
