HYDERABAD, Nov 16: The ousted nazim of Sanjar Chang union council, Tando Allahyar district, Lakhi Mohammad Rind, has appealed to the president for justice, alleging that the PPP leadership of Tando Allahyar had unleashed a reign of terror against him and his family.
Speaking at a press conference here on Sunday, Mr Lakhi alleged that 80 acres of land of his father-in-law had been occupied by Ghulam Qadir Marri, the manager of an influential personality of the country, with the help of police in Tando Allahyar.
Mr Lakhi’s brother-in-law Mohammad Ali Rind said that sugarcane worth around Rs2 million was to be harvested on the land.
He said that they were in litigation with Ms Maryam, the acting nazim of Sanjar Chang union council, over 52 acres of land. He said that they had earlier moved the Sindh High Court when Ms Maryam tried to dispossess them of the land.
He said that respondent police officials had pledged before the court that they would not harass them but on Sunday they had helped in its occupation in violation of their undertaking.
Mohammad Ali alleged that Ghulam Qadir, former Badin district nazim Kamal Khan Chang, Rafiq Rind and Ms Maryam along with 12 police mobiles and two armoured personnel carriers entered their land and occupied it.
He said that 12 peasants were picked up and seven of them had been arrested whereas three, including Bahadur and Ghulam Hyder, were missing.
“It is being done to compel me to change loyalties and work against Tando Allahyar District Nazim Dr Rahila Magsi”, said Mr Lakhi, who is facing around 10 criminal cases including those of water theft and mobile phone snatching.
“A recent case has been lodged against me at the Chambar police station on the charge of theft of 8,000kg sugarcane.
He accused Ghulam Qadir and Kamal Chang of victimising them while using the name of President Asif Ali Zardari. He appealed to the president to provide justice to them and put an end to victimisation at the hands of local PPP leaders and police.
