HYDERABAD, Nov 13: The Sindh Taraqqi Pasand Party has criticised go-ahead by Ecnec for the construction of Bhasha Dam and said that the Pakistan People’s Party has forgotten all promises it had made to people about stopping anti-Sindh projects after coming to power.
In a statement issued on Thursday, STP Chairman Dr Qadir Magsi said that Bhasha Dam would complete the destruction of Sindh, which was already deprived of its share in water.
Unfair distribution of water and unabated theft of Indus waters by a particular province had already left Sindh’s agriculture sector and ecology in tatters, he said and added after the construction of Bhasha Dam, the situation would become worst.
Mr Magsi said that sea had swallowed up 1.5 million acres of rich agriculture land due to non-release of water downstream Kotri and tens of thousands of acres had been rendered barren in the lower riparian Sindh by acute shortage of water.
Sindh, which had always produced surplus wheat was now faced with acute shortage of food, he said. When the PPP was in the opposition, it had led a movement against Kalabagh Dam, Greater Thal Canal, Bhasha Dam and other anti-Sindh mega water projects but after coming to power it had itself given a go-ahead to the dam, he said.
He reminded Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah of his opposition to the water projects and vowed that his party and people of Sindh would resist all anti-Sindh water projects.
