FAISALBAD, Nov 13: The Government College University Faisalabad’s teachers, non-teaching staff and hundreds of male and female students continued their protest on third consecutive day on Thursday.

The protest started after GCUF vice-chancellor Dr Arif Ali Zaidi’s resignation that he had tendered a couple of days ago. However, Dr Zaidi is performing his duty and awaits response from the chancellor.

Carrying banners and placards, the protestors gathered outside the vice chancellor office and chanted slogans in his favour, demanding the chancellor should not accept the resignation in varsity’s larger interest.

Following prolonged slogan-raising by the protesters, Dr Zaidi came out of his office and addressed his supporters, asking them to call off their protest.

He advised the students to not to boycott their classes as it was not good for their studies and thanked them for acknowledging the services he rendered for the university. He also promised he would review his resignation decision.

FESCO: Faisalabad Electricity Supply Company (Fesco) has launched a campaign to involve children in energy conservation efforts by sensitising students in seven districts schools.

Company spokesman Tahir Sheikh said on Thursday the campaign had been started following the special instructions from the Pakistan Electric Power Company (Pepco) and Fesco chief executive Ahmed Saeed Akhter.

He said posters containing catchy slogans are being distributed to students and displayed by the operation staff in all schools of Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Mianwali, Sargodha, Khushab and Bhakkar districts to educate children about the importance of energy conservation.

With an interval of two weeks, he said, six different posters would also be displayed one by one in the schools to emphasise the message.
