PML-N MNA put on notice

ISLAMABAD, Nov 11: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) here on Tuesday directed a Member National Assembly (MNA) of Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) from the federal capital to appear in the court otherwise the court would initiate ex parte proceedings against him in an election petition.

Justice Raja Saeed Akram of the IHC directed MNA Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry from NA 49 Islamabad-II to appear in the court within 15 days to avoid one sided decision as ample time has already been given to him to submit his reply in an election petition filed his rival candidate Syed Nayyar Hussain Bukhari of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).

The petitioner has sought recounting of the votes polled in the general election of February 2008 in NA-49. The PPP candidate lost the election to the MNA by 800 votes. The petitioner has stated that his polling agents were not present at the time of recounting of the votes by the presiding officer.

It is stated the polling officer did not take the mandatory signatures of the polling agents petitioner of both the parties on the election results slips neither he examined each and every vote to declare the results.

Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry of PML-N had been issued several notices and he had also been informed through and advertisement in the newspapers but he did not appear before the court to give his version.

In another case Chief Justice of the IHC Justice Sardar Muhammad Aslam dismissed the petition of Chairman Pakistan People's Movement Chaudhry Mohammad Ashfaq who has sought court orders for the issuance commemorating coin of Rs 50 and postage stamp at the first death anniversary of late Benazir Bhutto. The court dismissed the petition declaring it non-maintainable.

The petitioner had stated that the Benazir Bhutto was a great leader of Pakistan and Muslim Ummah while the Guinness Book of World Records in 1996 declared her the most popular leader of a country.

The late Benazir Bhutto was given the peace award four months after her death. The lady has served the nation and promoted the image of Pakistan as a progressive country around the world, the petitioner further states.

Making federal government through advisor to the Prime Minister on finance, federal minister of communication, Governor State Bank and General Secretary PPP Jahangir Badar as respondents the petitioner had prayed to the court to direct them to issue postage stamp and a coin in memory of Benazir Bhutto.

LHC: The Lahore High Court (LHC) Rawalpindi bench here on Tuesday put off hearing in two identical petitions filed by Pindi region nazims against the Punjab government after the legal counsel of the petitioners told the court that the LHC principle office had given decision in similar petitions in favour of Lahore regions nazims.

Justice Fazal-e-Miran Chauhan of the LHC while hearing the identical petitions filed by District Nazim Rawalpindi Raja Javed Ikhlas and District Nazim Attock Maj (R) Tahir Sadiq along with some town nazims directed the assistant advocate general (AAG) Punjab to intimate the court that whether an intra-court appeal had been filed by the government against the decision of Justice Shabbar Raza Rizvi of Lahore bench.
