SHIKARPUR, Nov 10: The senior vice-president of the Pakistan Muslim League-Q, Maqbool Ahmed Shaikh, has threatened that he and his friends will part ways with the party if the central leadership of Punjab continues to take unilateral decisions about party affairs without consulting Sindh.
Talking to reporters at his residence on Sunday night, Mr Shaikh complained about party leaders’ step-motherly attitude towards Sindh.
The party’s constitution gave equal right to all the provinces but the central leadership, in utter violation of the constitution, had monopolised decision-making about election of the president, general secretary and other party office-bearers without consulting Sindh.
He demanded that the party’s central president should call a meeting of the central council to discuss party elections instead of making unilateral decisions without seeking opinions of other provinces.
He reminded the leadership that Sindh had played an important role in strengthening the party and rendered sacrifices but now the provincial leaders would discontinue loyalty with PML-Q and decide to join either MQM or any other party if the leadership did not change its ways.
To a question, the PML-Q leader admitted that Choudhry Shujaat was a titular head of the party and Gen (Retd) Pervez Musharraf was its actual chief, which was the main reason behind complete voter blackout of the party during general elections in Sindh.
He said that Sindh had suffered a lot after the martyrdom of Benazir Bhutto and now the PPP leadership should leave no stone unturned to please people of Sindh.
Mr Shaikh advised the Punjab government to help Sindh in its time of trouble and provide it wheat on credit, which could be returned during the upcoming Rabi season on the same terms and conditions.
