LAHORE, Nov 9: Fancied bay colt Shock Wave put up a spectacular performance, landing the November Cup, run over 1,200 metres during the Lahore Winter Meeting at the Racecourse on Sunday.
Being the day’s outstanding performer, Shock Wave, ridden by riding boy Naseer Ahmed, showed wonderful acceleration in the straight chase to cut down his rival and easily win by over nine lengths.
Colt Tuba First contrary to his name, finished second while Lucky Cat and Lucky Winner completed the frame. Owned by Javed Khalid and trained by Aleemuddin, Shock Wave clocked one minute 12 4/5 seconds over the racing distance.
The owner received the cup from Pakistan’s former ambassador to the US and Lahore Race Club (LRC) senior steward Begum Abida Hussain. This was the fifth race of the day.
A race earlier, the four-year-old bay filly Richy Dancer won the Mianwali Cup gone over 1,000 metres in a pillar to post success.
The three-to-one chance filly Richy Dancer was on to a flying start and never let favourite filly Miss Play surge ahead, finally defeating her by three-fourths of a length. Victory Hero and Qasid completed the board.
The former speaker of the National Assembly Syed Fakhar Imam, who is also a senior LRC steward, gave away the cup to the winning owner soon after the race.
The three-year-old bay colt Mutajar ridden by Azhar Hussain impressed race goers with his fighting spirit when he held a resolute challenge of Extravagant by three-fourths of a length, winning the third race.
The five-year-old bay horse Extravagant was partnered by leading jockey Shahid Rehman, who seemed mesmerized by Azhar’s riding skill.
The short-priced chestnut colt Mikado stormed home by over three lengths to make amends for his two consecutive defeats and win the second race in the over 1,000 metres distance.
The winner beat filly Tripple Star, who came from behind to be home ahead of the field. The 25-to-100 odds on favourite Mikado was ridden by jockey Aamir Pervez.
A long shot bay colt Golden Falcon shot like a rocket to win the opener in a shock victory for favourite backers. Chestnut gelding Kamla, who ran off the board on Wednesday, finished second, showing surprising improvement within four days.
The riding boy Azhar Hussain was seen at his strongest on Sunday, riding home a brace of winners. He partnered Mutajal in the third race and Richy Dancer in the following event.
