LAHORE, Nov 6: On the orders of a Lahore High Court full bench, capital city police on Thursday night registered cases against `unknown lawyers’ who had locked courtrooms in lower courts on Nov 4.

Protesting against the government reluctance to restore deposed judges, the lawyers had locked rooms at Aiwan-e-Adal, Sessions Courts, District Courts, Cantonment Courts and Model Town Courts.

The FIRs were lodged in the police stations of Islampura, Lower Mall, Naseerabad and North Cantonment at midnight.

CCPO Pervaiz Rathore confirmed the registration of FIRs but refused to give further details. Another official said the FIRs had been sealed and would be presented before the bench on Friday (today)

The LHC full bench had directed Punjab IG Shaukat Javed to lodge FIRs against those responsible for locking courtrooms under anti-terrorism law.

No arrest had been made till the filing of this report at 1am on Friday.

SSP (operations) Chaudhry Shafiq Ahmed told Dawn: “We are identifying culprits and proper action will be taken against them.”
