PESHAWAR, Nov 6: Unidentified persons fired five rockets at the city targeting Peshawar International Airport and residential areas in University Town and Tehkal Payan, police said.
A police official said the rockets were fired at about 2pm, one of which hit house of Aziz Khan in University Town while the other landed at the residence of Inaam Khan in Tehkal Payan.
The official said the rockets partially damaged the houses but no major loss or casualties were reported. He said police personnel visited the areas and concluded that the rockets were fired from Regi area or Jamrud tehsil Khyber Agency.
Two other rockets hit the runway of Peshawar International Airport. An official of West Cantt police station said that they were not allowed to examine the site.
He said there were reports about landing of another rocket at Shami Road near Hassan Garhi but when police visited the area the report could not be confirmed.
The official rejected the reports that a radar room at PAF base was targeted, saying that officials of Pakistan Air Force were not allowing police to visit the area and examine the scene of occurrence.
It is worth mentioning that it is the third incident of its kind during the past three days.
POWER PYLON BLOWN UP: In another incident, saboteurs blew up a 500KV power tower near Shaikh Mohmmadi grid station in Badbher area causing power suspension to Peshawar, Hango, Kohat and other southern districts.
Police said that three consecutive blasts at midnight blew up a power tower near Shaikh Mohmmadi grid station in Badbher suspending supply of electricity to the area. A spokesman for Peshawar Electric Supply Company said the damaged 500KV tower fell on 220 KV Sheikh Muhammadi-Daud Khel Domail transmission line, which also disrupted power supply fed through this line.
However, he said, after hectic efforts their technical staff succeeded to restore the electricity to Peshawar and its adjoining areas through alternative sources.
He said the concerned engineers and experts after inspecting the site had initiated rehabilitation and construction work to re-erect the electricity tower on war footing basis.
The spokesman said the rehabilitation work and supply of electricity on permanent basis would take some time and till that time the affected areas would be supplied electricity through the alternative sources.
