Top seed crashes out of STA event

KARACHI, Nov 5: It was yet another day of upsets in the 18th STA Talent Hunt Sindh ranking tennis championship at the City Sports Complex on Wednesday when top seed Mustafa Zaidi was knocked out 6-3, 6-3 by sixth seed Abdul Rehman in the boys’ under-15 singles quarter-finals.

Unseeded Farhan Mustafa had shocked second seed Yayha Essa in three sets in the boys’ under-15 pre quarter-finals the other day.

Those who joined Rehman in the last four were third seed Nameer Shamsi and fourth seed Adil Kohari who won their respective matches straight. The former was home 6-2, 6-4 against Omer Usman while the latter got the better of Uzair A. Qadir 6-3, 6-3.

Nasir Mushtaq and Fahim Ramzan also propelled into men’s singles semi-finals while chalking up convincing wins.

Pre quarter-final: Talha Saeed bt Robin Das 2-6, 7-5, 6-2.

Quarter-finals: Nasir Mushtaq bt Asadullah 6-1, 6-1; Fahim Ramzan bt Zubair Dadi 6-2, 6-3.

Boys’ under-15:

Quarter-finals: Abdul Rehman bt Mustafa Zaidi 6-3, 6-3; Nameer Shamsi bt Omer Usman 6-2, 6-4; Adil Kohari bt Uzair A. Qadir 6-3, 6-3.

Ladies singles:

Semi-finals: Sara Ahmed bt Hina Patel 6-1, 6-1.

Girls’ under-17:

Semi-finals: Eman Malik bt Hina Patel 6-0, 6-0; Maheen Dada bt Saima Batool — walkover.

Boys and girls under-13 singles:

Semi-finals: Talha Khurram bt Maheen Dada 8-4; Saud Shoaib bt Ali Hussain 9-7.
