RAWALPINDI, May 10: Like in other parts of the country, the local chapter of the Punjab Teachers Union boycotted the classes here on Friday, on the call of the Muttahida Mahaz-i-Asatiza (MMA).

The teachers remained present at the demonstration camps and held joint prayers for the fulfilment of their demands. Besides Rawalpindi city, the teachers at Gujar Khan, Kahuta, Murree, Kotli Sattian and Taxila also boycotted the classes.

The president, Punjab Teachers Union, Rawalpindi district, Imtiaz Ahmad Abassi, said the teachers would continue their struggle unless their charter of demand was accepted.

“We had presented our demands to the government four months ago, but it remained silent,” he said.

Meanwhile, he visited various schools and demonstration camps in the district. He called upon the teachers to fight for their rights. He said the teachers did not want to come out on the roads but the apathy of the authorities compelled them to do so.
