GUJRANWALA, Nov 4: At least 52 non-government organisations (NGOs) and social welfare associations have unanimously decided to boycott all marriage ceremonies and welfare parties where fireworks or aerial firing is arranged.
A decision to the effect was taken at a meeting held here on Tuesday with NGOs alliance district president Muhammad Ashraf Bhutta in the chair. Heads of other organisations and associations were present in the meeting and unanimously supported the resolution.
The participants were of the view that aerial firing and display of fireworks in marriage ceremonies caused fatal incidents and loss of lives.
They suggested that the money being wasted on aerial firing or fireworks should be given to the destitute and patients in hospitals for their treatment and medicines.
ARRESTED: Khiali police claimed on Tuesday to have arrested two land grabbers who were wanted in many cases.
Police said the accused identified as Sarwar alias Ghora Rizwan and Adnan illegally occupied lands of people. They used to prepare fake documents and sell plots.
On a tip-off, the police conducted a raid and arrested them.
ACCIDENT: A student was killed in a road accident at Ghakkhar Town on Tuesday.
Reports said Javed Masih was on his way by his motorcycle when his two-wheeler struck against a tree. He succumbed to his injuries on way to DHQ hospital.
ROOF COLLAPSE: Four labourers were injured in a roof collapse near Wapda Town on Tuesday.
Reports said Yaqoob Khan, Faisal, Zulfikar and Sikandar were sitting in a room of a house when its roof caved in.
They were trapped under the debris.
Rescue 1122 reached the spot and shifted them to the DHQ hospital in a critical condition.
