GUJRANWALA, Nov 3: Kamoki and Eminabad police booked over 300 people, including paddy growers and a union council nazim, on charges of suspending traffic on GT Road and arrested two dozens of them during raids on Monday.

Reports said growers had blocked GT Road at Kamoki after parking their paddy-laden tractor-trolleys about two days ago when the commission agents of grain market refused to purchase their crop at suitable price. They burnt tyres and suspended traffic on Gujranwala-Lahore Road for several hours. They dispersed when a police contingent reached there and resorted to baton charge.

After their protest, residents of Eminabad also blocked GT Road the same night when an elderly woman, Naziran Bibi, was crushed to death by a tractor-trolley. They put the body on GT Road, burnt tyres and suspended traffic for several hours.

However, the Sadar SP and other senior officers reached there and got the traffic restored.

Kamoki police have registered a case against more than 70 paddy growers, including 17 nominated accused.

Eminabad police have registered a case against 284 people, 84 of them are nominated, including UC nazim Rana Nasir Mehmood on charges of blocking GT Road, smashing windowpanes of vehicles and injuring SHO Saifullah, sub-inspector Karamat Ali and constable Zeeshan Ahmad.

Police have nabbed about two dozens accused so far and are conducting raids for more arrests.

MURDERED: Two youths allegedly killed their sister, a mother of five children, and her lover and threw their bodies in a field at Heranwala, Wazirabad, on Monday.

Reports said Khalid married ‘S’ of the tribal area some nine years ago. She gave birth to five children. In the meantime, her cousin, Sumandar Khan, started visiting her.

Khalid admonished her but she did not mend her ways. Khalid informed her brothers, Niaz Wali and Sher Wali, who came to the village, killed their sister and her lover and threw the bodies in a field.

EXAMS SCHEDULE: The Gujranwala Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) on Monday issued the schedule for secondary school certificate and class-IX annual examinations 2009 to be commenced from March 7.

Last date for sending admission forms with single fee is Dec 1, 2008, for private and Dec 16 for regular candidates. Last date for private candidates with double fee has been fixed Jan 1, 2009, and for regular candidates Jan 5. However, the last date for both private and regular candidates with triple fee is Feb 9.

The admission fee for classes IX and X is Rs350 each for regular science group and Rs380 each for private science group and Rs300 for arts group.
