SUKKUR, Nov 3: More than 40 high rise buildings in Sukkur city and New Sukkur taluka are being constructed without earthquake resistance system, which is against the rules of building by-laws.

This was stated by District Nazim of Sukkur Syed Nasir Hussain Shah while talking to journalists in a function.

He said that district government of Sukkur has decided to take action against the officials of concerned departments, who had failed to implement laws and approved layout plans in violation of rules and regulations.

He said that the influential builders, who were constructing residential plazas and shopping centres in both the talukas, were not abiding by the building laws as a result of which such buildings could prove disastrous for the residents of plazas and shopping centres.

He said that despite repeated directives issued by the federal as well as provincial and district governments, the administration of new Sukkur taluka and old Sukkur city had failed to get building laws implemented.

The Sukkur nazim said that he was almost set to take disciplinary action against the officials of concerned departments who had failed to implement the directives of higher authorities.

The nazim said that complaints were pouring in against the builders about their refusal to provide sufficient space for car parking and improper arrangement for disposal of sewerage.

He pointed out that the former DCO Sukkur, Shafiq Ahmed Khoso, had stopped work on two buildings but due to political influence these buildings were being re-constructed in violation of building laws.
